A new study looked into how visual clutter—be it in our homes, offices, or even screens—alters how information flows into the brain.⁴
Studying macaque monkeys (a species with visual systems most similar to ours), the researchers found that visual clutter outside the field of focus influenced how effectively the brain stores info.
The researchers likened it to a game of telephone: The more elements that are added, the more likely the message gets convoluted.
Essentially, the more we have to distract us, the less our brains are able to receive information accurately.
